Film Debut Makes Castle Howard Ever More Popular with Visitors to Malton Hotels

19th Nov 2008

An article in the Malton Mercury reports how Castle Howard, near our Malton Hotels, is benefitting from its starring role in a Hollywood blockbuster.

The estate also welcomed more than 1,000 visitors, staying at Malton Hotels, on each day throughout half-term.

Operations Manager Hannah Jones told the Malton Mercury: “There’s no doubt that the release of Brideshead Revisited, starring Castle Howard as Brideshead Castle, has encouraged people to visit. Our new Brideshead Restored exhibition has been very popular, letting people visit the sets of the film.”

Sally Joynson, Chief Executive at Screen Yorkshire says, “This is fantastic news and demonstrates the impact that film and television production can have on raising the profile of destinations such as Castle Howard.

“Stimulating the growth of the region’s economy is one of the key motivations for Screen Yorkshire to invest in films such as Brideshead Revisited and with a recent report showing that films are responsible for attracting one in five overseas visitors, attracting high profile films to Yorkshire will continue to be a priority for us.”

Castle Howard is now closed and will re-open, complete with the Brideshead exhibition, for Christmas on the 29th November 2008.
