Lottery backing for Ryedale History Museum
15th Jan 2009
Guests staying at our hotels in Malton are a step closer to being able to visit the Harrison Collection which is a priceless collection of 10,000 social history artefacts collected by local brothers Edward and Richard Harrison over the last 50 years.
The Heritage Lottery Fund has decided that the Rydale Folk Museum, near our Malton hotels, can now move on to the second stage of it’s bidding process. The Hutton-le-Hole local attraction is planning a £2.3 million development to house this fanatstic collection.
The Lottery fund has awarded the Rydale Folk Museum £97,500 to develop its plans to buy The Barn, a Hotel next door to the museum, in order to create a new exhibition and purpose built learning centre.
Mr Benson, the museums director, said it was likely the museum would need to raise £50,000 towards the cost of this exciting new project and that some money was already coming in.
“We’ve received about £14,000 in donations so far – cheques are coming in the post almost every day – so we’re well on the way.”
“The response has exceeded all my expectations and this is more important to me than the lottery money because it shows support for the museum.”
The family attraction is hosting an exhibition of items from the Harrison Collection until March of this year, so whilst staying in our accommodation near York you can enjoy a historic day out at the Rydale Folk Museum and view the artefacts from the collection.
