North Bay Skate Park Comes Closer to Reality
25th Sep 2008
More than a hundred visitors from Scarborough hotels gathered to watch more than 100 skaters, bikers, bladers gathered to show off their skills and raise awareness and funding for the planned new skate park near Hairy Bob’s Cave near the Clifton Hotel in Scarborough.
Scarborough Council’s design and development officer Tom Mutton told the Scarborough Evening News: “The council has been working for the last two years with the Skate 4 Scarborough group to realise their dream for a new facility for Scarborough.
“The superb plans for the new park near the Clifton Hotel on North Bay, include a concrete bowl and street course to rival any skate park in the country. It will contain a 5ft volcano, 6ft bowl and 7½ft vert wall and cup cradle – enough to test the nerves of any intrepid skater or biker!
“There will also be a dirt jump section for BMX and mountain bikes, which will be the first of its kind in the borough.”
The North Bay project is costed at £450,000, with £370,000 of that already raised. An application has been made to Sport England for some of the remainder but the council and Skate 4 Scarborough are currently seeking business sponsorship to help complete the package.
Skate 4 Scarborough’s Ste Asquith told the Scarborough Evening News: “The event was truly awesome and the quality of some of the riders surprised everyone. I was really pleased to see so many families attend and enjoy the show. The support we received just shows how important this new skate park is to Scarborough.”
