Nunnington Hall Opens for this Year’s Season
09th Mar 2009
The stately home of Nunnington Hall, close to our Malton hotels, opened again for business this Saturday.
The Helmsley stately home is a picturesque Yorkshire Manor House with an organic garden and an exciting programme of exhibitions for the coming year.
Set on the banks of the River Rye and once home to the doctor of Henry VIII, Edward VI and Elizabeth I, Nunnington Hall has a collection of miniature rooms with tiny furnishings and musical instruments.
The Helmsley Stately Home has a totally organic walled-garden, retaining its 17th century character, and has promised a year packed full of events and exhibitions.
Simon Lee, who is the property manager, said:
“It’s exciting to be opening earlier in the year and earlier in the day too. Many National Trust properties across the country are doing the same in response to requests from our members, supporters and visitors.”
The exhibition programme at Nunnington Hall begins with The Illustrators 1800-2009. This display is fresh from London and it features original drawings and paintings by book illustrators, including Arthur Rackham, EH Shepherd and Quentin Blake.
Guests staying at our Malton hotels in early summer will be able to enjoy the world premiere of Desirer Walks the Streets, which is a photography exhibition by Andy Summers, best known as the guitarist with The Police.
Following this exhibition, and for the first time in the UK, Mary McCartney’s Collective Works will be displayed. This collection includes a cross-section of her photographs.
Nunnington Hall will also be hosting concerts with world-class artists. The hall is welcoming back some old friends including, the guitarists Juan Martin and Steve Phillips, the author Louis de Bernieres and the great singer songwriter Edwina Hayes, who played a fantastic sell-out show last year.
Nunnington Hall’s season of events is rounded off with clairvoyant and psychic Joanne Gregory, a guest on Living TV’s Most Haunted, who will be giving an evening demonstration.
The Helmsley stately home is open for those staying at our Malton hotels Tuesday to Sunday, including Bank Holidays, from 11am- 5pm.
